YOUTH ZONE

YOUTH SPEAK... young people's stories.

Share your story  More stories....

Peer education plays an important part in PYP, we are therefore encouraging young people who can spread positive messages to other young people through music, story telling, poetry or videos  to submit their work. We would also like young people that have been affected by any issues such as drugs, alcohol, HIV and AIDS, guns and knives, bullying to share their experiences.

An inspirational and motivational song from our PYP Young Ambassador Silvaa King. The lyrics reflect a certain situation in every young persons life......it's never too late to make some changes.....'It's alright!!!'.

International AIDS activist Hydeia Broadbent speaks to the youth about HIV/AIDS prevention. 25 year old Hydeia was born with HIV. Her biological mother was a drug addict who abandoned her at the hospital just after she was born. Hydeia was then taken to a county-run temporary children's facility called Child Haven until she could be placed in a foster home and eventually be adopted by a permanent family. Video produced by Jazz Smollett and directed by Troy Warwell.

For YEARS I have seen, read or heard about "amazing", "inspirational", "visionary" people. I often wonder how and WHY people made such a huge fuss about them. The difference between these individuals was their ability to completely ignore everyone else's scepticism, negativity and insecurities. These people have helped shape the way we percieve certain things in life. These people went about their lives BOLDLY. Our University mantra is " GO BOLDLY" and on the 6th of March I did just that... I shaved my head for cancer awareness. I loved my hair.Unlike others my hair will grow back. Not only was it a liberating experience for myself. It made me realise that there are many cancerous situations that we have in our lives. Be it toxic relationships/ friendship,or all the negativity that is emitted into the world. We all need to take some time out to have some self retrospection to identify WHAT and WHO is relevant and important. ACKNOWLEDGE the impact they have in our lives be it POSITIVE or negative.Only after we have acknowledged this can we destroy the negative elements and multiply the POSITIVE...THAT FUELS US TO GO BOLDLY...! .R.

A powerful, entertaining piece about youth culture in today's society, focusing on anti social behaviour and offering an alternative path to a life of crime and deprevation. This poem was written and performed by Laura Walsh (http://www.artreach.net), for a class of young people. It was later performed live on The Billy Butler Show BBC Radio Merseyside, as the resident poet on the Friday afternoon show. Warning! this video contains images of violence and horrific injuries inflicted on victims.
